Doing Your Own
WordPress Updates
hrough the course of each year, WordPress will come out with
Tupdates to their system that are designed to introduce new
features, eliminate bugs and generally make things simpler
for the people that use WordPress directly. Once you receive
these updates, there are two ways to actually update to the
latest version. The frst merely calls for you to click an
update button, wherein WordPress will take care of the
rest for you. The second method allows you to manually
update every aspect of the system, providing you with a
more hands-on approach to the update. If you want to do
your own WordPress updates, here’s a detailed guide on
how to do so.
Backup Your Website
Whether you select an automatic update or choose to
perform a manual one, it’s essential that you backup your
website. With any update, there’s always a chance that an
error can occur, and you could lose some or all of your data.

WordPress, which should be in Zip form. Once the fle has been downloaded,
it needs to be unpacked, which is done with just the click of a button. Before
going any further, make sure that all of your plugins have been disabled.
Next, you will need to delete any old wp-admin and wp-includes directories within
your web host. This can be directly accessed through either shell access or FTP. Using either
of these systems, upload the newest directories that go by the same names as the ones mentioned
previously. Within the WordPress update fle is a folder titled wp-content. All of the fles within
this folder should be copied and placed into the wp-content folder already existing within your
WordPress. Make sure to overwrite all existing fles. It’s essential that you avoid deleting any other
fles within the current wp-content folder, as only the ones that are being overwritten need to be
moved.
Lastly, you will want to upload any loose fles from the root directory of the latest update and place
them into your current root directory. There are several other tips that will ensure this process is
handled without issue. For one, any old fles within the wp-admin and wp-includes directories should
be replaced with the new ones. The same holds true for any sub-directories. When copying fles
