The Chrome 81 is planned for a February
2020 release. HTTP images will be auto-
upgraded to the HTTPS standard. If the
image fails to load, then it will be blocked from
downloading.
If any content on the page cannot be
upgraded or delivered via the HTTPS
standard, a Not Secure icon will be displayed
in the address bar. Of course, showing this
icon on web pages could harm a brand’s
reputation.
How to Know if Your Site is Loading
Mixed Content
Chrome is currently the most popular
browser for exploring the internet on mobile
and desktop. Even so, other browser providers
are not ignoring the security concerns created
by mixed content.
If you ignore the changes coming for mixed
content, your business credibility is at risk. An
insecure website could lead to a loss of traffic,
sales, and revenue.
Check Your Pages for Mixed
Content
If you have already converted to HTTPS,
your website may still be showing an insecure
icon if it pulls in assets from insecure locations
on the web. You can find which pages have
mixed content by visiting them individually and
checking Google Chrome for a shield with a
red cross. This icon indicates that some of
the content on the page has been blocked.
Another icon to look out for is the info icon, blocking mixed content for many years now.

Converting to SSL can be intimidating, but
most hosting providers have streamlined the
process, or will even do it for you for a small
fee.
Fixing Mixed Content Issues with
WordPress Plugins
WordPress users can fix mixed content
blocking issues with the SSL Insecure
Content Fixer plugin. This plugin works by
replacing HTTP URLs with HTTPS versions.
The downside is that the process will slow
your site down by a few milliseconds.
A more manual method uses the Better
Search and Replace plugin to find insecure
HTTP assets and replace them with the more
secure HTTPS protocol. Once the URLs have
been located and fixed, the plugin can be
uninstalled. It’s a more permanent solution
that will not impact the speed of your page
load times.
SSL Insecure Content Fixer is another
plugin created to help WordPress users find
insecure resources and provide guidance on
how to fix them.
Google Chrome is not the only browser
active in creating a more secure internet.
Microsoft’s new Edge browser will be based
on Chromium code, so it will behave like
Chrome. Firefox already blocks scripts and
iframes and requires user intervention to re-
