Ricci Levy of Woodhull Freedom Foundation is this Week’s Guest on Adult Site Broker Talk.
Ricci has been engaged in sexual freedom activism for several decades.
In 2003, she helped found the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, a nonpartisan, nonprofit human rights organization dedicated to defending the personal autonomy of all individuals.
As the Executive Director, then President and CEO, Ricci has led Woodhull for more than twenty years.
Ricci has traveled around the country giving evidence and speaking at conferences, frequently addressing challenging themes in a way that encourages constructive dialogue and fosters coalitions.
Ricci is in the forefront of discussions about censorship, decriminalizing sex work, shackling convicted women in labor, and the right to family and reproductive justice.
Since its establishment, the Foundation has argued for sexual freedom as a fundamental human right, worthy of standing alongside other hard-fought liberties such as freedom of expression, family, and privacy.
Whether speaking with students about the legitimacy of all consenting families or successfully lobbying Congress to eliminate condoms as evidence of prostitution, Woodhull collaborates with allies who represent specific issues, identities, and communities while also serving as an umbrella advocate for sexual rights in general.
The Woodhull Freedom Foundation seeks to change laws, policies, and behaviors that all undermine or threaten our fundamental human right to sexual freedom. Woodhull was essential in ensuring that domestic partner benefits were included as a component of same-sex marriage, which was at risk under the original legislation.
They were instrumental in the abolition of Washington DC’s “Prostitution Free Zones,” which violated legally defensible rights, and testified and lobbied on behalf of efforts to end the practice of shackling incarcerated women during labor and childbirth in Florida prisons.
Woodhull also successfully fought to amend the regulations governing sexting between minors.
In addition to encouraging legislative, judicial, and corporate accountability and progress, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation is the leading voice at the intersection of sexual and human rights, arguing that the United States should protect rather than limit human rights, including those related to sexual freedom.
Woodhull was the primary plaintiff in Woodhull Freedom Foundation v. United States, the sole federal challenge to the lethal FOSTA unlawful legislation.
